Yesterday was another special treat from Betty as she led our caravan 85 miles east to Pierre Part, Lousiana, to visit Adam's Cypress Swamp Driftwood Family Museum.
Mr. Morales builds so many unique objects from the driftwood he finds. As I understand it, he doesn't cut, shape, or sand the wood--he just waits till he finds the perfect pieces to fit together. Double click on any pic to enlarge.
Depicted to be Troy Landry (of Swamp People fame), his three brothers and Mr. Morales and his grandson.
Noah's Ark!!
Statue of Liberty--fantastic!
In back of his house, located on the edge of a swamp, are thousands (millions?) of pieces of driftwood waiting to be paired up with others. He goes out in the swamp every day collecting more pieces.
Mr. Morales in his inside showroom pointing out some of his favorite pieces.
He is featured in many You Tube videos and on the Internet and also has been filmed by the History Channel.
His rendition of the Twin Towers.
As an added attraction for the day, Betty arranged for the famous Louisiana Swamp Pop musician/singer Don Rich and his wife to meet us at the museum! They are so nice and down to earth!!
In fact, all of these people are so nice, kind, and humble. Don Rich has received almost every award possible in Louisiana and has recorded many CDs . . . yet he didn't bring any with him!! At Betty's prodding, he went home and got some and several of us bought them. He is a fantastic singer and also plays 7 instruments.
The front of Mr. Morales' house faces a beautiful bayou.
Now--our NEXT segment . . . more excitement as we stopped in at Duffy's Shell station in hopes of meeting Troy Landry--the King of the Swamp!
As luck would have it, he wasn't around (went to Super Bowl on Sunday), but his most gracious (and proud? LOL) mom visited with us and gave us photos of Troy and his son. She said to just call next time before we come to see if he is there.
I spotted this poster and had to get my picture taken with them!
Troy's truck!
