MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Navy promotion boards are on hold until a base in Millington can reopen after weekend flooding.

David Crenshaw, spokesman for Naval Support Activity Mid-South, said Monday that officials were still evaluating the extent of the flooding damage, and it wasn’t clear when operations would resume.

According to a NavAdmin message released Monday, key computer systems remain down, including that for Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command and BuPers Online.

The facility manages the Navy’s recruiting efforts and personnel actions, including promotions for senior enlisted and all officer ranks.

The Millington facility just north of Memphis has a review center called “The Tank,” which gives members of the promotion board instant electronic access to personnel records and other information.

Crenshaw said it would be “unbelievably cumbersome” to try to shift the promotion board meeting elsewhere.
